Can My SSDI or SSI Check Increase with a New Diagnosis?
If you have several different conditions, you may be wondering if your Social Security Disability benefit increases with your conditions. My name is Kaitlin Wildoner, and I’m an attorney who helps disabled clients obtain their disability benefits as quickly as possible so they can focus on getting better.
Today, we’re going to talk about whether you can get more Social Security disability benefits if you have new conditions. The short answer is no, you cannot get a greater amount of Social Security disability benefits if you have new conditions.
If you receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), the amount of your Social Security disability benefit is based on your earnings and what you were able to pay into Social Security while you were working. If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, your household income is connected to your benefit amount.
It does not matter how many conditions you have, or if you have new conditions, as to how much your monthly benefit amount is. If you have already been approved for Social Security disability benefits, it’s likely that you are already receiving the maximum amount of benefits available to you. However, if you think there might be additional Social Security benefits available that you are not receiving, I encourage you to call Social Security directly to confirm whether there might be additional benefits available for you.
