When Does Thyroid Cancer Qualify for Compassionate Allowance?

If you or someone you love were recently diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer and you’re wondering whether it may qualify for Social Security disability benefits, this video is for you.

My name is Kaitlin Wildoner and I’m an attorney who helps disabled clients obtain their disability benefits as quickly as possible so they can focus on getting better.

Today we’re going to discuss anaplastic thyroid cancer and specifically when it may qualify for Social Security disability benefits through the compassionate allowance program.

Anaplastic thyroid cancer is a rare and aggressive form of cancer of the thyroid gland, and it tends to affect women more than it impacts men. A biopsy is the only sure way to diagnose anaplastic thyroid cancer and that biopsy will be needed for a compassionate allowance case to be approved. Social Security will often evaluate adult cases involving anaplastic thyroid cancer under listing 13.09A.

When evaluating anaplastic thyroid cancer cases, Social Security is looking at the clinical history and examinations that describe the diagnostic features of the cancer, as well as the pathology report mentioned above.
