Have you or someone you love recently been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma and are you wondering if it may qualify you for Social Security disability benefits?
My name is Kaitlin Wildoner and I’m an attorney who helps disabled clients obtain their disability benefits as quickly as possible so they can focus on getting better.
In this video, we’re going to discuss when Ewing sarcoma can qualify for the Social Security Disability compassionate allowance program. Ewing sarcoma is a malignant, vascular, solid round cell tumor in which cancer cells are found in the bone or in soft tissue. The most common areas in which it occurs are the pelvis, the femur, the humerus, and the ribs. It’s an aggressive cancer and more than one method of treatment therapy is almost always required.
Ewing sarcoma is part of a group of four different types of cancer, known collectively as the Ewing family of tumors. Social Security will often evaluate Ewing sarcoma cases under Listing 13.04 or Listing 13.11D. For pediatric cases, Social Security will often evaluate it under Listing 113.03.
When evaluating Ewing sarcoma cases, Social Security is looking for a medical report that specifies the type, extent, and site of the primary recurrent or metastatic lesion, or a biopsy or needle aspiration. The operative notes are also important as well as pathology reports, summaries of any hospitalizations, and any medical reports that include details of the surgical and pathological findings. The clinical history and examinations can also be helpful as well as other imaging tests and treatment records that include any surgical procedures and up-to-date progress notes.
