How to Build a Strong Social Security Disability Case from the Start
If you have been diagnosed with a physical and/or mental condition and it’s preventing you from working in any capacity, you may be wondering if there are certain things that you can do to build a strong Social Security Disability case from the start.
My name is Kaitlin Wildoner, and I’m an attorney who helps disabled clients obtain their disability benefits as quickly as possible so they can focus on getting better.
Today we’re going to talk about different ways to build a strong Social Security Disability case from the beginning.
1. Seek Medical Treatment Early and Often
It’s so critical to seek medical treatment for your disability as soon as possible and to receive regular and ongoing medical care. Make sure to provide the Social Security Administration—and your lawyer, if you have one—with detailed medical records or a complete list of providers that are able to document your condition and its impact on your ability to work.
2. Be Honest and Thorough on Your Application
You want to be honest and thorough when completing your initial application for disability benefits. Provide as much detailed information as possible, including information about your condition, your work history, and your daily activities. Be honest about your limitations and the impact that the disability has on your activities of daily living.
3. Consider Hiring an Experienced Disability Attorney
You may want to consider hiring an experienced Social Security Disability attorney. An experienced attorney can help you navigate the complex application and appeals process, gather necessary documentation with you, and overall increase your chances of being approved for benefits. They can also help to prepare you for a hearing before an administrative law judge and help to present a strong case on your behalf.
