Can You Apply for SSI Benefits Online?

Are you disabled and unable to work and wondering if you can apply for Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, benefits online?

My name is Kaitlin Wildoner, and I’m an attorney who helps disabled clients obtain their disability benefits as quickly as possible so they can focus on getting better. Today, we’re going to talk about whether it’s possible to submit an application for SSI benefits online.

Yes—You Can Apply for SSI Benefits Online

To apply online, you will need to visit the official Social Security Administration website at www.ssa.gov. From there, you’ll create a personal my Social Security account on the website if you don’t have one already.

Once logged in, navigate to the “Apply for Benefits” section, where you can begin the online application.

What You’ll Need for the Online SSI Application

The online application will guide you through a series of questions about your:

  • Personal information
  • Financial status
  • Disability information

You will also need to provide details about your:

  • Income
  • Resources
  • Living arrangements
  • Other relevant information to determine financial eligibility for SSI benefits

Be Accurate and Thorough

You’ll want to be sure to complete the application accurately and thoroughly, providing all of the required information and documentation.

After You Apply

After you submit the application, you will receive confirmation of it, and you may want to save a copy of the application to your computer so you have it for your future reference.

After it’s submitted, the Social Security Administration and state agency will begin to review your application and contact you regarding any additional information that they may need.

Thanks so much for watching!
