Don’t Do THIS While Waiting for Your Social Security Hearing | Beacon Disability

Don’t do this while you’re waiting for your Social Security Disability hearing to be scheduled!

If you are waiting for your Social Security hearing to be scheduled, do not stop treating and seeing your doctors. Social Security needs to see consistent and ongoing medical treatment in order to find you disabled. If you stop treating, Social Security won’t know why.

While there can be many reasons why someone may stop treating and seeing their doctors – including the cost – Social Security does not often try to understand reasons why you may have stopped treating. They often just go straight to, well, you stopped treating, you are not disabled.

When you are waiting for SSDI or SSI benefits and are unable to work, it can sometimes be hard to find and or afford medical insurance. If you are unable to afford medical insurance, check your state and local rules as you may qualify for Medicaid. If you don’t qualify for Medicaid, there might be a local clinic that offers low to no-cost health care for individuals. Sometimes those clinics are privately run, sometimes they’re run through a hospital, and sometimes they’re run through a state or a local health department.

In short, don’t stop treating and seeing doctors for your condition while you wait for your hearing to be scheduled, ongoing medical treatment is critical to proving your disability.
