When Are SSDI Benefits Paid?
If you are pending an approval for Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, benefits, you may be wondering when the benefits will be paid.
My name is Kaitlin Wildoner, and I’m an attorney who helps disabled clients obtain their disability benefits as quickly as possible so they can focus on getting better.
In this video, we’re going to discuss when Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, benefits are paid.
Monthly Payment Schedule for SSDI
SSDI benefits are generally paid on a monthly basis. Beneficiaries of SSDI benefits receive the benefits once a month, typically on the same day each month.
The specific payment date depends on the recipient’s birth date. For most SSDI beneficiaries, payments are going to be made on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month.
SSI vs. SSDI Payment Timing
SSI payments, on the other hand, are typically made on the first day of the month.
In some cases, if the regular payment date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the Social Security Administration may adjust the payment date to the nearest business day.
It’s important to distinguish between SSDI and SSI payment schedules.
Auxiliary Benefits for Family Members
If the SSDI recipient has eligible family members, such as a spouse or children, who are entitled to auxiliary benefits, those benefits are typically paid at the same time as the primary recipient’s benefits.
Retroactive SSDI Payments
In some cases, SSDI recipients may receive retroactive payments covering past months—particularly if there was a delay in approving the application.
These retroactive payments are typically paid in a lump sum.
Managing Your Benefits Online
Recipients can create an online account with the Social Security Administration to access their benefit information, payment history, and other important details.
If you have specific questions about your SSDI payment benefit schedule or need assistance with any related matters, we typically will recommend that you reach out to the Social Security Administration directly or visit their website for additional information and resources.
Final Reminders
As always, remember that individual circumstances may affect payment schedules, and it’s important that recipients keep their contact information up to date with the Social Security Administration to ensure smooth payment of benefits.
